Application Engineers - Northville, MI

CD-adapco currently has vacancies for CFD engineers in the Application Engineering team of our Northville, Michigan Office. Positions are also available in the Tustin (LA) or Seattle area.

Serving as the technical lead in demonstrating and deploying CD-adapco’s best-in-class simulation software to a wide variety of customers, this position offers an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of the innovative use of simulation in engineering design, industrial processes and research environments. The successful candidate will be exposed to a full spectrum of simulation applications in industries such as Automotive, Aerospace, Architecture, Defense, Energy, Marine etc. The breadth of analyses covered by these application areas is also broad ranging and includes standard analyses of fluid dynamics, heat transfer as well as new simulation topics such as electric motor analysis and battery design.

The successful applicant will work in a team environment and with customer teams, to examine engineering processes and models that may benefit from advanced simulation analysis. There will be responsibility for ensuring that customers achieve the maximum technical benefit from investing in CD-adapco’s technology products, and, as part of this, there will be some focus on educating customers in best practices through conducting training courses and providing customized project mentoring from our facilities and at customer sites.

Being successful in this role requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as a strong organizational ability to multi-task with both long term and short term projects. This position will need to rapidly understand the expanding applications to which CFD is employed as well as handle the pace of development of the STAR-CCM+ toolset.

Minimum qualifications would include a Bachelor Degree in an engineering-related field while post-graduate degrees are preferred. However, the emphasis is on a strong understanding of fundamental engineering principles and the underlying mechanics of CFD such as turbulence modeling, meshing strategies, solver schemes or heat transfer phenomena. Additionally, exposure or experience in the following areas may be considered advantageous:

  • JAVA programming language
  • CAD packages such as CATIA v5, Pro/E, NX, SolidWorks or Inventor
  • Codes to which CFD can be coupled to such as FEA packages, 1D simulation tools, optimization software
  • Electric Machine design, Battery Modeling

Previous CFD experience in industry with a commercial code is preferred but not required.
