After explaining why simulating a pool break is so difficult in my last blog post, I couldn't resist actually performing the simulation using Discrete Element Modelling in STAR-CCM+.

In the interests of full disclosure, I should confess that (despite my own advice) this simulation:

  1. Does not account for the gravitational pull of the big guy at the bar.
  2. Does not account for the gravitational pull of every particle in the entire universe.

 

However, despite being a monumental waste of computing resources, this simulation does help to resolve the central question posed in my Blog: the reason that I am so bad at pool, is that I wasted my youth doing geeky CFD simulations rather than hanging around in smokey bars playing pool.
