Is a picture worth a thousand words? Some are, some aren’t — but why? When it comes to presenting simulation results, it is not an easy question to answer or anticipate. While we are fully engaged in projects, we learn a lot about the devices and processes we are modeling.

With excessive amounts of data being generated in the face of fast-approaching deadlines and our target audiences needing to form their own thousand-word narratives, it is easy to lose sight of our primary objective: delivering something in an efficient and effective way that enables others to see problems immediately and understand the choice of resolution.

The challenges of managing our data include:

Effective communication of our simulation efforts to colleagues and partners ...

Eliminating environmental or other airborne contaminants within medical, biological research and production facilities is critical to the success of their mission. The use of CFD allows for a non-intrusive way of determining air conditions of a room without concern for operator safety potentially disturbing a measurement.

In this webinar we will demonstrate how CFD is used for analysis and optimization in several environments: be it determining ventilation rates in an operating room, playing a critical role in minimizing the rate of infection from airborne bacteria and viruses; or a study of a pharmaceutical clean-room environment in which there has been an accidental introduction of an aerosolized...

Multi-stage turbomachinery flow-fields are inherently unsteady. Accurately capturing unsteady flow features such as tip vortex motion and blade-row interaction is important for properly predicting machine performance and thermal profiles. Modeling these unsteady features provides greater insight into the transient nature of the system, and is also necessary for accurate prediction of time-averaged quantities such as efficiency and blade temperature.

Traditional time-marching unsteady methods are often accompanied by prohibitive expense with regard to computational cost. The harmonic balance method is able to capture unsteady...

No CFD simulation is ever fast enough - anyone who has used CFD likely will agree with that. Most of the time the computing speed comes to mind when you state this, but the overall CAD-to-results time is actually a better measure.

The CAD-to-results time consists of all the aspects that require user interactive involvement as well as the time the computer spends calculating, and the highest hourly cost often is the user interaction. So speeding up the user interaction may be the most cost-efficient focus.

This seminar will explore the use of macros in STAR-CCM+ to automate and accelerate user interactive tasks when running electronics cooling simulations. The...

Reactors are integral in the chemical, fermentation and polymer industries as they execute the chemical conversion of raw materials into value-added product. The highly coupled physical and chemical processes (fluid flow, reaction chemistry, heat transfer, material property change) undergoing inside makes them necessarily complex.

Design and scale-up of reactors requires a careful and planned approach. Often, empirical approaches need supplementary information with 3D-resolved simulations using CFD to sufficiently understand behavior to arrive at an optimum design.

As an example, the complexity of biopharma operations is increasing dramatically and 3D mixing...

Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) is widely used within industry to help meet the challenging nitric oxide (NOx) emission requirements for diesel engines. There are a number of important criteria necessary for designing an efficient SCR system, including fast mixture preparation of the liquid urea-water solution and high ammonia uniformity at the SCR device.

However, one problem that threatens the life and performance of the system is urea deposit formations. The deposits can generate backpressure, material deterioration causing decrease in engine and emission performance of the SCR device.
