The Academic Research Package consists of three levels and you can choose the level which best suits your needs. Each level includes our flagship product, STAR-CCM+.  STAR-CCM+ includes an extensive range of validated physical models that provides academics with a toolset capable of tackling the most complex engineering problems:
 
Time:  steady-sate, unsteady implicit/explicit, harmonic balance
 
Motion:  stationary, moving reference frame, rigid body motion, mesh morphing, large displacement solid stress, overset meshes
 
Material:  single mulitphase and multi-component fluids
 
Multi-component Multiphase:  free surface (VOF) with boiling, cavitation, evaporation & condensation, melting and solidification, Lagrangian, Eulerian multiphase wiht boiling, gas dissolution, population balance and granular flow as well as discrete element modeling (DEM), fluid film with wave and edge-based droplet stripping
 
Flow:  coupled flow and energy / segregated flow and fluid film with droplet stripping, melting and solidification
 
Regime:  inviscid, laminar, turbulent (RANS, LES, DES) transition modeling, incompressive through to hypersonic
 
Multi-Domain:  porus media (volumetric and baffle), fan and heat exchanger models
 
Multi-Discipline:  finite volume stress modeling, lithium-ion battery simulation, flulid structure interaction (FSI), electromagnetic field analysis including ohmic heating, magnetic vector potential and electro-deposition coating
 
Heat Transfer and Conjugate Heat Transfer:  solar, multi-brand and specular thermal radiation (discrete ordinates or surface-to-surface)
 
Combustion and Chemical Reaction:  PPDF, FCM, PCFM, EBU, progress variable model (PVM), thickened flame model, soot moments emission, and DARS CFD complex chemistry coupling interphase reactions for Eulerian multiphase
 
Dynamic Fluid Body Interaction (DFBI):  fluid-induced motion in 6 degrees of freedom including propulsion and maneuvering
 
Aeroacoustic Analysis:  fast Fourier transform (FFT) spectral analysis, broadband noise sources, Ffowcs-Williams Hawkings (FWH) sound propagation model
 
CAE Integration:  co-simulation and bi-directional mapping between STAR-CCM+ and 1D/3D codes
 
 
With an ever increasing need for analysis using complex, realistic models, STAR-CCM+ is designed to utilize your hardware resources as effectively as possible.  Whether the compute nodes are a cluster of workstations or a single supercomputer, at any time, STAR-CCM+ allows the user full interactive access to all simulation data and solutions while running.  License options include client/server - where the software is deployed as a client that handles the user interface and visualization while a server performs the compute operations and our unique Power-on-Demand license option.  Power-on-Demand is your gateway to analysis on the cloud where STAR-CCM+ usage is counted by time, not number of sessions or processor count.  If you have an internet connection, you can access STAR-CCM+ via Power-on-Demand.  The benefit to Power-on-Demand is that it works for any cluster, cloud or network, including your own university cluster and it provides access to unlimited partitions and sessions.
 
The Academic Research Package consists of three levels and our users can choose the level which best suits their needs. 
  • Level 1:  Up to  4 Client/Server Licenses; or Up to 4,000 Power-on-Demand Hours
  • Level 2:  Up to 10 Client/Server Licenses; or Up to 8,000 Power-on-Demand Hours 
  • Level 3:  Unlimited Power-on-Demand Hours
