CD-adapco is the world's largest independent CAE-focused provider of engineering simulation software, support, and services. We are seeking a Technical Author for our Documentation team, currently distributed between offices in Europe and the US. This team is responsible for producing end-user documentation, tutorials, and other technical information, for the company's CAE products. Areas of physics that our software can model include single phase flow, multiphase flow, heat transfer, rigid body motion, electrochemistry, combustion, and stress analysis.

Our ideal candidate has a background in engineering or science, and has several years’ experience in writing end-user documentation for technical software. We are also open to candidates who wish to move into technical writing as a career, and can demonstrate an ability to explain things well in written English.

Technical Authors at CD-adapco are expected to:

  • Integrate with development teams in an agile development process.
  • Explore new features of CD-adapco software during development. This work includes preparing simulations for use in tutorials.
  • Communicate with developers, application experts, and support engineers to capture technical knowledge.
  • Write clear and consistent material that conforms to our standards.
  • Contribute to strategic developments in the documentation process.

As an applicant for this position, you must:

  • Be able to demonstrate that you can explain things well in written English.
  • Have at minimum a bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, or mathematics, and preferably a further postgraduate qualification that is related to CAE.
  • Be comfortable with working in a distributed development environment.
  • Be able and willing for occasional travel to other CD-adapco offices in Europe and the US.

Experience in the following will be an advantage:

  • Simulations of Internal Combustion Engines (ICE) and related systems
  • Computer Aided Engineering tools and methods (for example, CFD, FEA, or CAD tools)
  • DITA 1.2, XMetaL, and content management systems.
  • Linux OS, shell scripting, and Java programming
