The CD-adapco Global Academic Program congratulates Alex Haldane for winning the CD-adapco Academic STAR Simulation Contest! Alex’s submission, STAR-CCM+ LES Simulation of Poppet Valve Using Morphing Mesh and Dynamic Remeshing , was chosen from a number of videos submitted by academics from all around the world. Alex recently finished his third year of the four year Mechanical Engineering MEng course at the University of Warwick in the UK. As top prize winner, Alex’s video will be featured on the main page of the CD-adapco website along with winning an iPad Mini and a CD-adapco Global...
Sloshing in a separator
Sloshing analysis in a 3 phase separator on board a ship or FPSO
From bridges made of pasta, to 'grow-it-yourself' brains, Brigid looks behind the headlines to bring you the latest Engineering News.
LNG sloshing
Ships are being designed with increasingly larger insulated holding tanks to allow for a growing capacity in the marine industry and now more than ever, sloshing and structural integrity of these bigger tanks pose a significant technical challenge to the Marine Industry. Shown is LNG sloshing in a tank.
Sloshing in a Separator
Ships are being designed with increasingly larger tanks to allow for a growing capacity in the Marine Industry and now more then ever, there is a need for accurate prediction of structural loads on the tanks due to sloshing. Shown are the results from a sloshing analysis in a 3 phase separator on board a ship.
 Falling Lifeboat Simulation
The 6-DOF solver can be used in conjunction with moving or overset mesh. It allows the computational domain to move in any of the six possible translational or rotational degrees of freedom, allowing the numerical simulation of rigid body motion in a fully-coupled manner with the flow solver. Shown is a simulation of a free falling lifeboat slamming into the sea.
The DFBI model enables engineers to easily simulate the fluid induced movement of a body, for everything from life boat launch to a tanker listing under heavy seas. Shown here is a sloshing and slamming simulation of a tank falling into water.
Yacht Simulation
Today, more engineers are using STAR-CCM+® for aerodynamics analysis than any other tool on the market, a testimony to its advantages: quick turnaround time, accuracy and ease-of-use at a reasonable cost. Shown here is a simulation of a simplified America's cup yacht.
Five Blade Propeller Simulation
Using cutting-edge solver technology, CD-adapco’s customers have been able to tackle some of the most demanding problems facing the marine industry, allowing engineers to predict how designs will react in operation before budget is committed to the construction of expensive prototypes.Shown is the simulation of a five bladed propeller with an iso surface of vorticity.
