Marine transport has been around for much longer than any other transportation sector. It is today, as ever, the main method for carrying goods around the world. Yet it has never before encountered the combined effect of the two major challenges it faces today: that of a huge increase in consumer demand, along with the adoption of stringent environmental regulations designed to tackle climate change. Simulation technologies (CFD and FEA) and multi-design exploration (MDX) can be used to drive innovation and performance improvement. This new Marine Special Report is a timely update to the...
Addressing IC Engine Combustion, Emissions and Performance Using the Latest 3D CFD Modeling Techniques
Many difficult challenges face IC engine manufacturers as they attempt to reconcile legislative and market demands. As a result, up-front simulation has now become integrated into the product design process in most vehicle and engine companies throughout the world. This webinar will highlight and explore: Latest developments from CD-adapco in engine geometry meshing and numerical simulation of in-cylinder flow, fuel spray mixing, combustion and emissions that are available to engine analysts. Applicability of state-of-the-art combustion models for different engine combustion strategies: PFI,...
Deriving and supplying appropriate properties for complex structures has not been an easy task, but all that is about to change with the upcoming release of STAR-CCM+® v11.04, and the introduction of the multi-layer solid model for solids and shells. This feature allows for treating laminates made up from multiple layers of different materials as multicomponent solids, automatically determining the effective overall components of anisotropic thermal conductivity. This makes setting conjugate heat transfer problems with complicated assemblies involving a lot of laminates significantly easier. This is particularly applicable for applications in vehicle thermal management and electronics cooling.
Using CFD to Design More Efficient Combustion Systems
Combustion is the major source of energy in the world today. Improving the efficiency of combustion systems is not only critical from an economic perspective, but it greatly impacts the environment and long-term sustainability of our planet. Experiments and prototyping are expensive due to the complexity and high temperatures involved in combustion systems. Therefore, CFD simulation is a key enabling technology for designing better combustion and aftertreatment systems. Combustion engineers are now integrating simulation up front in their design processes to increase efficiency and reduce...
The Virtual Refinery: An Introduction to CFD in Downstream (Refining and Petrochemical) Operations
If you are involved in equipment design, maximizing refinery uptime and efficiency, troubleshooting problems or preparing for turnarounds, and are interested in the latest flow and thermal simulation technology, this webinar is for you. Whether it is maldistribution of flow causing catalyst exhaustion, separation, combustion, thermal fatigue of mixing tees or coking, successful management of fluid and particle dynamics and heat transfer are critical for maximizing refinery uptime and process efficiency. Achieving process efficiency at the plant scale requires strong performance of individual...
In STAR-CCM+® v11.04, the highly regarded (extended) pom-pom adds to our list of viscoelastic constitutive models. Best suited for highly branched polymers like low density polyethylene (LDPE), it is able to most accurately predict viscoelastic responses for elongational flows commonly encountered in industrial processing.
