Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and particle modeling with Discrete Element Method (DEM) have been identified as key enabling technologies in finding solutions to many of the challenges that surround scale-up; capable of reducing operating costs across manufacturing and quality divisions. Please join us for this workshop as we explore the benefits of applying CFD in the chemical process, pharmaceutical and biotech industries.
We will discuss how STAR-CCM+ ® Computational Fluid Dynamics software can be used to help in the design of energy efficient buildings. Some areas include fire and smoke modeling, cleanroom studies, wind dispersion, thermal comfort, solar loading, pedestrian comfort and other building-related analyses. Each discipline carries with it numerous opportunities to simultaneously improve energy efficiency and human safety.
Engineering simulation impacts a wide range of external aerodynamic applications such as fuel economy, maneuverability and noise. With demanding schedules, shrinking resources and a competitive market, engineers need to obtain accurate results as quickly and efficiently as possible. This online event will present best-practice techniques to model a range of aerodynamic conditions for aerospace applications. Attendees will learn which physics models, numerical schemes, turbulence models, meshing strategies, and optimization techniques are best-suited for this class of simulation problem. With...

Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) is widely used within industry to help meet the challenging nitric oxide (NOx) emission requirements for diesel engines. There are a number of important criteria necessary for designing an efficient SCR system, including fast mixture preparation of the liquid urea-water solution and high ammonia uniformity at the SCR device. However, one problem that threatens the life and performance of the system is urea deposit formations. The deposits can generate backpressure, material deterioration causing decrease in engine and emission performance of the SCR device...
Cell Can to Battery Module: Boost HEV Battery Performance Through Simulation
This two-part webcast will show attendees how to improve the specifications of a commercially available cell and simulate the performance of an HEV battery module using Battery Design Studio® and STAR-CCM+/Battery Simulation Module™ software. Utilizing cutting-edge technology, this webcast will help demonstrate how you can derive real benefits. Within the webcast, the characterization process is explained to highlight and explore the key parameters necessary for the cell performance model. Presenters examine how technology like Battery Design Studio can quickly and accurately adjust cell...
Fluid Film Coating Simulation
In our example the part is dipped into a VOF bath using Overset Mesh to model the motion, on being pulled back out of the bath it picks up a Fluid Film coating, and we can see the resultant thickness (as shown by the scalar on the surface) is far from even – perhaps we need to change our dipping process. As the film runs down the part, it drips off as Lagrangian droplets, and the droplets finally drip back into the VOF bath (thanks to the Lagrangian-VOF multiphase interaction model). This example took 12 hours on 10 cores, orders of magnitude less than would have been required for a resolved...
