The inaugural STAR Global Conference will be held on March 20 and 21, 2012 at the Grand Hotel Huis ter Duin in the Netherlands, an exclusive beach front hotel located just 20 minutes from Schiphol Airport.

Conference Bus Service
- We will be running an hourly coach service from Schiphol to and from the Conference Hotel
- The coach will run hourly from Schiphol on Sunday 18th and Monday 19th
- Return coaches will depart from the hotel after the conference on Wednesday March 21 (at approximately 4pm)
- The fee for both journeys is included in your conference registration.
- Take the IC train to Leiden Centraal (CS) which leaves Schiphol very regularly, takes approx 20 mins and costs €5.20, €10.40 return. Please consult the Dutch National Railway Website
- Once through Schiphol arrivals there are signs to the train station (all in the same building). The ticket is bought on the ground floor, the trains are downstairs and there are vending machines that take credit cards.
- From Leiden it is 12km with a taxi or a bus no. 40 which leaves every half an hour and takes around half an hour to Noordwijk. Bus info from the Conexxion office at Leiden station.
- Follow the A4 along Schiphol airport.
- At the junction after the bridge restaurant and the petrol station, head towards Leiden West/ Den Haag Centrum (A44).
- On the A44 take the turning Noordwijk/ Voorhout/ Oegstgeest Noord (turning 6).
- Turn right at the end of the turnoff towards Noordwijk.
- Proceed along the canal and go straight ahead at the traffic lights in Voorhout.
- Turn left at the next set of traffic lights before Noordwijk (Gooweg / Nieuw Offemweg) and turn right at the second roundabout (Beeklaan).
- Stay on Beeklaan and after approximately 1,5 km Grand Hotel Huis ter Duin is situated on your left-hand side.
- Follow the A44 from Den Haag, along Wassenaar. On the A44 you take the turning Noordwijk/ Leiden/ Katwijk (turning 8).
- Turn left at the end of the turnoff towards Noordwijk.
- Follow the road (approx. 7-km.) and take the 1st turning Noordwijk.
- At the roundabout you go straight across the roundabout (Beeklaan).
- Stay on Beeklaan and after approximately 1,5 km Grand Hotel Huis ter Duin is situated on your left-hand side.

Released at the STAR-Global Conference, STAR-CCM+ v7 is the latest, greatest version of our flagship simulation tool. This half-day orientation training is designed to familiarise you with important new features, including:

Battery Systems Modeling Workshop and Electrification Sessions
On March 19th-21st the industries leading Battery and Electrification specialists will come together in Amsterdam. No single event this year will gather this level of expertise in these developing technologies.
The three days of activities are aimed at technical and managerial engineers looking to expand their understanding of these rapidly developing technology, activities described below.
March 19th: A guide to simulating lithium-ion batteries using Battery Design Studio® software.
The March 19th workshop will be hosted by Dr. Robert Spotnitz, author of Battery Design Studio. Dr. Spotnitz will explore the challenge of providing effective battery simulation in a demanding industrial environment and how simulation can complement design methods.
The workshop will cover the creation of numerical battery models to capture battery cell performance and the criteria behind model selection. The created models will then be explored using Battery Design Studio®.
March 20th and 21st: Battery and Electrification Industrial Sessions
In addition to the March 19th workshop, the STAR Global Conference will feature two dedicated Industrial Sessions on analytical battery methods and electrification of ground transport. These sessions will include notable speakers such as, but not limited to:
- GM Opel, International Technical Development Center
- Nissan, Department of EV Energy Development
These leading companies will discuss their current applications and results using Battery Design Studio and Battery Modeling using STAR-CCM+.
