STAR-CD running over a distributed
Windows cluster at Supercomputing 2005
Thursday December 1, 2005 London and New-York.
Visitors to the Microsoft stand at the Supercomputing 2005 Conference in Seattle were treated to a preview version of STAR-CD running over a distributed Windows cluster using Microsoft MPI.
In his keynote speech, Bill Gates described his vision of the future in which he promised a Supercomputer under every desk. In front of a standing room only crowd Gates unveiled the latest beta of Microsoft's Windows Compute Cluster Server 2003, saying "Technical computing is crucial to the many discoveries that impact our quality of life -- from making safer, more efficient cars and airplanes to addressing global health issues and environmental changes".
Dr Dennis Nagy, CD-adapco's Vice President of Marketing and Business Development, recognises the introduction of distributed Windows computing as an important one: "The size and nature of industrial CFD calculations has previously restricted most serious analysis to users of Linux and Unix based clusters. Microsoft are introducing Supercomputing to a whole new market and we anticipate that this move will open the world of full-spectrum CFD to a whole new marketplace. Our product demonstration at this conference demonstrates that Microsoft's move into the HPC market is one that we fully support."
CD-adapco is the leading global provider of full-spectrum engineering simulation solutions for fluid flow, heat transfer and stress, including CFD software, CAD-embedded CFD options, CAE consulting services and training.
