CD-adapco to showcase Engine Modeling Capabilities at DOE’s 11th Diesel Engine Emissions Reduction (DEER) Conference.
New York and London, August 18, 2005.
CD-adapco will participate in the exhibition area and in a poster session at the Department of Energy's 11th Diesel Engine Emissions Reduction (DEER) Conference, August 21-25, 2005 in the Palmer House Hilton, Chicago, IL.
CD-adapco will demonstrate some of the newest capabilities of its software, STAR-CD and STAR-CCM+ from Booth 10 in the exhibition area of this conference. Of particular interest is ECFM-3Z, a universal combustion model for engine simulation recently implemented in the industry leading CFD code, STAR-CD. ECFM-3Z (3 Zone Extended Coherent Flame Model) was jointly developed by Renault and IFP (Institut Francais du Petrole) and addresses the specific combustion challenges posed by Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engines.
Marc Zellat, CD-adapco’s Director of Engineering in Europe, will present at poster session on Advanced Modeling of DI Diesel Engines: Investigations on Combustion, High EGR Level and Multiple-Injection. This presentation will be held on Monday, August 22 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. in the Upper Exhibit Hall. This presentation will describe the recent development of the general multi-purpose code, STAR-CD, in the field of Internal Combustion Modeling with a special emphasis on DI Diesel Engines operating with very high level of Exhaust Gases Recirculation (higher than 30%) and using multiple-injection strategy. Predictions using ECFM-3Z have been compared with extensive data from a DI Diesel Engine in production over a wide range of operating conditions. The results show that the combustion model used in combination with a two-step auto-ignition model gives realistic Heat Release History, as well as emission prediction
