Brave driving and superior Engineering: Renault F1 and STAR-CD scoop a fourth consecutive win
London, 27th April 2005
The Renault F1 Team continued their unbroken series of victories with a fourth consecutive win in Sunday's San Marino Grand Prix. In winning his third Grand Prix in a row, Spaniard Fernando Alonso extended his lead at the top of the Drivers' World Championship to 18 points. The Renault F1 Team currently leads the Constructors' World Championship by 19 points.
Impressively, Alonso's car was powered by the same RS25 V10 engine that secured him victory the Bahrain Grand Prix, becoming the first engine in the modern era of Formula 1 to win two consecutive races. This is a significant achievement as Alonso was able to successfully hold off the challenge of the second and third place cars powered by brand new engines.
The RS25 engine, as well as much of the car aerodynamics, is designed with the aid of CD-adapco's world leading Computational Fluid Dynamics software, STAR-CD. Dennis Nagy, CD-adapco's Vice President of Marketing and Business Development, was suitably impressed. "The San Marino victory was due to a combination of brave driving and superior engineering", said Dr Nagy. "Designing an engine capable of winning back-to-back Grand Prix is an outstanding achievement. CD-adapco are proud to be associated with another ground-breaking moment in Formula 1"
