STAR-CCM+ nominated for "Most Innovative Product of the Year" Motorsport Award

London, November 30, 2006

This week, at the awards ceremony for the World Motorsport Symposium, CD-adapco were nominated for the prestigious "Most Innovative Product of the Year Award", in recognition of the impact made by their revolutionary new Computational Fluid Dynamics product STAR-CCM+.

CD-adapco is easily the most successful CFD supplier in Formula 1. Of the points awarded during the 2006 season, incredibly almost 70% were awarded to teams that use STAR-CD or STAR-CCM+ for aerodynamic or engine simulation. CD-adapco have been suppliers of advanced CAE software to the Renault F1 Team since its inception in 2001. The World Championship Winning RS26 engine, and R26 chassis were designed with the aid of STAR-CD and STAR-CCM+.

STAR-CCM+ was specifically developed with the requirements of the Formula 1 industry in mind, being able to easily handle models of well over a billion cells. From its first release in 2004, STAR-CCM+ has impressed the motor sport community with its rapid pace of development. Written "from the ground up" using the latest programming techniques, STAR-CCM+ is an entirely new concept in CFD. Innovations such as built-in surface-wrapping, advanced automated meshing (creating either polyhedral or predominantly hexahedral control volumes) and the ability to paste meshes and model set-ups between calculations have established STAR-CCM+ a reputation for producing efficiently high-quality simulation results with minimum user effort.

For Jean-Claude Ercolanelli, Product Manager of STAR-CCM+, this nomination is a clear acknowledgement of the advantage that CD-adapco's partner's gain from applying leading-CAE technology to their design process: "Success in industry, as in motorsport, is measured by increasingly small margins. In the highly competitive environment of modern industry, using STAR-CCM+ technology in your design cycle can be the difference to win".
