New CAD-Integrated CFD Options for Design Engineers

At MICAD 2004, CD-adapco, developer of a range of industrial CFD/CAE codes, will be demonstrating its unique range of CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) add-ins for CAD systems.

Powerful CAE tools that integrate all aspects of virtual engineering are facilitating the merging of industrial design and analysis methods. In response to this, CD-adapco has invested in the development of a range of new capabilities for its CFD codes based on its STAR-CD and Comet solvers. The two solvers now come integrated with a number of major CAD packages, which currently include Pro/ENGINEER, Unigraphics 18 and NX, CATIA V5 and SolidWorks.

CAD integrated with CFD meets the needs of engineers who need to simulate simple or complex flows in a CAD environment. The benefit of CD-adapco’s new add-ins, is that it is possible to run a full CFD analysis from within the same CAD environment that the engineer builds his/her model in. This has the advantage that there is no need to learn a new interface, since selections, options and dialogs, work in the exactly same way that the user is familiar with. The parametric CAD-enabled CFD approach, also facilitates what-if design iteration, allowing results and new designs to be quickly assessed.

For engineers who do not have a CAD system or CAD model available, the CFD solvers STAR-CD and Comet also include the options STAR-Design and Comet-Design. These offer the same ease-of-use as the other add-ins, and instead use a parasolid based solid modeler for creating the desired parametric model.

Steve MacDonald, General Manager of CD-adapco, says:
" With our new CAD-integrated CFD options, we are able to satisfy the spectrum of demands from the growing community of CFD users that need to work within their preferred CAD environments. We look forward to showing you our products at MICAD 2004 (Stand H13) ".
