es-pass, CFD for passenger comfort

This fall also marks the official release of CD-adapco's passenger compartment tool, es-pass. es-pass simulations provide better understanding of the flow and heat transfer processes affecting de-misting, de-icing and passenger thermal comfort.

The es-pass tool is an Expert System for solving passenger compartment airflow. Starting from a good CAD surface, es-pass provides an easy-to-use GUI to guide the user through geometry import, surface preparation, template generation, mesh generation, run setup and post-processing.

Included with es-pass are the setups for solar radiation, thermal radiation, and the heat/humidity rejection of the passenger. This allows the designer to study the HVAC duct design and location and the influence that they have on passenger thermal comfort. The analyses can be conducted in either steady state or transient mode. Specially developed de-icing/de-misting models provide an economical means of simulating the transient process.
