STAR-CCM+, the Next Generation CFD Code

 
 

STAR-CCM+ is a new CFD solver from CD-adapco, combining latest numerical algorithms and state-of-the-art software coding to bring accuracy, ease-of-use, reliability and flexibility to the computational fluid dynamics engineer.

The code features portability and integrated techniques to bring a new level of speed and efficiently to the product design process. High usability is assured by the provision of an object-based user interface and generalized mesh interfaces. The code offers transparent parallel operation with integrated analysis and reporting, and implemented via a C++ server and lightweight Java-based client.

Equipped with a pre-conditioned coupled and a segregated solver, STAR-CCM+ is suitable for the efficient and accurate analysis of a wide range of flow regimes including those found in the aerospace and turbo-machinery sectors. One multi-stream code is now capable of analyzing everything from interior cabin flows, HVAC systems and turbine and compressor systems, through to the external aerodynamic design of the airframe. A wide range of turbulence models included in STAR-CCM+, are easily recognizable from their aerospace heritage. However, many classical models with new near-wall treatments for enhanced accuracy are also available. From the inception of STAR-CCM+, emphasis has been placed on accuracy and robustness with extensive validations performed against the most respected empirical data available. For the most complex geometries ranging from rotating missile bodies, highly swept turbine blades, complex high-lift systems to the classic aerodynamic lines of the swept wing and streamlined airframes, STAR-CCM+ will efficiently accept information from arbitrary cell shapes created by a meshing system that starts within your native CAD system. The process of creating the streamlines has just been streamlined itself!

Flow regimes include inviscid, laminar and turbulent flows. A computational continuum mechanics (CCM) approach makes the code the ideal platform for multiphysics. General polyhedral cell formulation accommodates all mesh types and integration tools allow meshes to be imported from most major mesh generation packages. STAR-CCM+ supports Linux, Windows and Unix.

Reliability is intrinsic to its modular structure with fully independent model components, which enables errors to be removed through automated, continuous testing and integration. Accuracy and Speed are unrivalled, achieved through the use of advanced discretization techniques, a coupled implicit solver using algebraic multigrid and its scalable parallel implementation.
