The aerodynamic configuration of a Le Mans Prototype depends on the nature of the
track where it races: some pre-installed parts may be adjusted, such as the rear wing
main plane or the flap. Regulations permit the homologation of various versions of
the aerodynamic package but place restrictions on how many changes can be made.
Typically, up to two “flaps” are allowed to be added on the front fenders in order to
increase the front downforce. These flaps are the object of the aero analysis and
optimization described in the article.
