Hydrology and Environmental Hydraulics

Who Should Attend

This course is intended for civil engineers and environmental scientists and engineers. Prior experience with STAR-CCM+, is strongly recommended, but not required.

Course Description

The purpose of this course is to teach STAR-CCM+ users techniques and best practices for analyzing problems in hydrology and environmental hydraulics. Typical applications include: river mechanics and open channel flows, environmental systems analysis, and dams, spillways and fish ladders.

  • Day 1
    • Lecture: 3D-CAD, Geometry Data Import and Surface Wrapping
    • Workshop: Geometry Import, Surface Repair & Surface Wrapping
    • Lecture: Free Surface Meshing & Analysis Strategies and Best Practices
    • Workshop: Free Surface Analysis of Flow in a River Bed
    • Lecture: Post-Processing of Free Surface Analyses
  • Day 2
    • Lecture/Demo: Wave Generation Boundary Conditions using VOF Waves
    • Lecture: Introduction to Multi-DOF Analyses (DFBI)
    • Workshop: Heave Response of a Floating Buoy
    • Workshops: Dam/Spillway/Fish Ladder Analyses
    • Review and Open Session (Time permitting)
